The following update regarding the construction of the Six Mile Creek Bridge replacement project has been provided by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR):

Upcoming Works:

  • establishment of site compound on Kin Kin Road
  • pre-construction environmental surveying works including fauna surveys and erection of fauna fencing
  • vegetation clearing and grubbing

Expected Impacts

  • traffic controllers, automated traffic signals, reduced speed limits, road signage and variable message signs will be in place to advise of the changed traffic conditions and to ensure motorist and roadworker safety
  • motorists can expect delays when single lane closures and traffic management are implemented in the work zone
  • priority access through the work site will be given to emergency vehicles
  • we are expecting higher truck movements with the site establishment works. TMR will strive to balance impacts to the community and motorists using the road network during these busier times. TMR is also engaging with key stakeholders who utilise Kin Kin Road to coordinate the delivery of our materials
  • majority of works will be undertaken during the day from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 5pm
  • works will pause over the Christmas/New Year period from mid-December 2022 and resume in early January 2023.

The project has been assessed and approved under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act. As a result, the project is putting in place measures to manage erosion, sediment and air quality. Alongside this, an approved species management plan will be implemented to manage and mitigate any impacts to flora and fauna species. Local offset planting will also be undertaken to mitigate any loss of koala trees.

Every effort will be made to keep disruptions and noise to a minimum while the works are underway. TMR understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby businesses, residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during these activities. TMR will provide another update residents and stakeholders in the new year as construction progresses.
