In response to constituent enquires regarding renewal notices for expiring vehicle registrations, the Department of Transport and Main Roads have provided the following information (in italics):

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advise a Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice (VRRN) is generated approximately six weeks prior to the registration expiry date and forwarded to the first registered operator’s residential or postal address, or electronically if they have enrolled to receive e-notices.

The e-notice and e-reminder services are fee free online services available to individuals to receive notices and reminders by email.

When a registered operator signs up for e-notices, all future notices will be issued by email only and will no longer be sent by post.

When a registered operator signs up for e-reminders, they will receive emailed reminders for registration renewals if payment has not been received: 3 days prior to expiry; the day of expiry and 7 days after expiry. Reminders are not available by post.

Further information about e-notices and e-reminders and details about how to enrol, can be found at //www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Online-Services and click (1) My e-notices and e-reminders (located under the heading ‘Account’).

For registered operators receiving their VRRN by post, TMR cannot comment on external mail service providers. Customers experiencing difficulties with mail delivery are encouraged to contact Australia Post directly to conduct an investigation.

As outlined in Section 31 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2021, the non-receipt of a VRRN does not affect the registered operator’s responsibility to renew their registration before it expires.

TMR provides options to make a registration payment online, by BPAY or in person at a TMR Customer Service Centre. Customers may also check a vehicle’s registration online or by using the free ‘Queensland Rego Check’ app which may be downloaded using App Store or Google Play. They may wish to click on ‘Add Reminder’ to enable a registration renewal date alert to be added to their device’s calendar.

TMR also offer a direct debit payment service for registration renewal fees. Customers must enrol online and can choose to have their registration renewal paid automatically everyone, three, six or 12 months. When a customer enrols in the direct debit scheme, the payment is deducted approximately 14 days prior to the vehicle’s expiry date.

Information about enrolling in the direct debit service can be found at: //www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Online-Services and click (1) More vehicles and registration and (2) Enrol in direct debit (located under the heading ‘Vehicles and registration’).

We suggest anyone not receiving their notices either by mail or via email, to go to the link provided (www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Online-Services) and update their address and other details to ensure they are notified in future.
