During our recent annual Noosa MP community survey, some residents raised the need for increased assistance for families and youth to access sport and recreation opportunities, including FairPlay vouchers. Following our enquiries, the Queensland Minister for Sport and Racing provided the below information in italics on sporting pathways and funding opportunities for Noosa residents.

It is great to hear that FairPlay has been identified in your electorate survey as assisting Queensland families to access sport and recreation opportunities within your local community. At this time, I am unable to provide any details regarding future rounds of FairPlay, however any updated information will be made available via www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/fairplay.

The Department of Sport, Racing, and the Olympic and Paralympic Games (DSROPG) also supports Queensland children and young people on a sporting pathway via the Emerging Athlete Pathways (EAP) program. EAP supports eligible young athletes, coaches and officials aged 10 to 18 years to progress on a development pathway by providing financial assistance to help alleviate the costs associated with attending state, national and international events. We encourage your constituents to explore the information available on EAP, by visiting www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/emerging-athlete-pathways.

We also encourage your constituents to stay updated on all DSROPG funding opportunities by visiting www.sport.qld.gov.au/sport/funding-programs. Updates on these programs will also be shared through the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation social media channels.

Sports and recreation clubs within your electorate may also be interested in exploring the DSROPG ClubIQ program, which offers free, easy-to-use resources for Queensland sporting clubs. These resources help club committees and volunteers deliver quality service to their communities with four key focus areas including governance, financial management, planning and volunteering, and may assist clubs to plan and prepare for future funding. ClubIQ can be accessed at www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/club-support.

We will continue to advocate for future FairPlay rounds to ensure that everyone in our community has access to sport and recreation opportunities. We would appreciate any feedback on the above information to further inform our advocacy in this space. Please email our office via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au.
