What has been termed a ‘perfect storm’ of weather conditions from ex Tropical cyclone Iris, a high tide and ocean surges on Good Friday saw serious damage to our natural habitat when holiday makers drove on to the dunes reportedly between the 3rd cutting and Teewah to escape the swells.

Permits to access the National Park clearly state to avoid high tides, and to not drive on the dunes which is reinforced through websites, brochures and signs.

QPWS have reported that rangers reinforced this message when stationed at the Ferry, however sadly this advice was not taken.

In response to this situation I have requested an urgent meeting with the relevant departments including QPWS and TMR, Noosa Council and our local police to work together on a resolution to ensure this does not happen again to keep both our natural environment and people safe from harm.

Progress on this will be posted as updates here, via Facebook and through general media.
