The second meeting of the Housing Action Group, which consists of myself, Mayor Clare, council planning staff and various other stakeholders, resulted in the identification of opportunity with existing sites and also within the local planning scheme. At the December 17 Council meeting, a mayoral minute was supported that included commitments to review Council land assets and incorporate consideration of priority sector employee housing within the upcoming review of the Local Economic Plan. As well, there was a request for the Council CEO to bring forward a report to identify potential amendments to the planning scheme to accelerate the provision of suitable community housing. The carrying of this resolution now gives an official intent to the efforts being undertaken.

In addition, I will be visiting the first micro apartment in Noosa in the New Year, which was the result of previous advocacies and a further update will be provided after the next Housing Action Group meeting in January.
