In response to questions regarding the Queensland Government’s involvement in cloud seeding and whether this has been occurring throughout Southeast Queensland, we can provide the following information.
There was a research project announced by the Queensland Government 24 January 2008 at https://statements.qld.gov.au/statements/50169
The final report from the research project can be found on the American Meteorological Society’s website which can be found here.
There was also a petition put to QLD Parliament asking about cloud seeding in 2022. You can read the petition at https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-the-Assembly/Petitions/Petition-Details?id=3775 and on the right hand side of that page it says ‘Responded By: Hon Meaghan Scanlon MP on 30/9/2022’. If you click on the date itself, it will take you to her official response to the questions in the petition.
Of particular note in her response:
- since the second season of cloud seeding in February 2009, the Queensland Government has not undertaken any further research or operational activities on cloud seeding, in south east Queensland or elsewhere within the State;
- the Queensland Government is not aware of any other cloud seeding and/or weather manipulation projects or research conducted since 2012; and
- the Queensland Government is not aware of any cloud seeding or any other weather manipulation activity being conducted by any agency in Queensland; however, this should be confirmed with Commonwealth Government organisations.
Please note that this information directly relates to the Queensland Government. For any enquiries relating to the Federal Government and cloud seeding, please contact your local Federal (Commonwealth) MP’s office:
