Even though outside of the Noosa electorate, Sandy’s advocacy has continued alongside the Nicklin Member of Parliament (MP), to see resident concerns regarding the state-controlled Cooroy intersections and overpass addressed. As mentioned in our February 2024 Noosa 360 update, following the pavement works on the railway overpass that didn’t meet community expectations, we provided feedback to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). In response, they announced a complete resurfacing of a 1.3 kilometre stretch of Cooroy Connection Road (Myall St) incorporating the overpass and both approaches to the bridge, with tenders being accepted.
TMR have recently provided the following update on the tender process:
Contract awarded for resurfacing works on Cooroy Connection Road
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will resurface Cooroy Connection Road (Myall Street), starting mid-September, with work completed by mid-October, weather permitting.
A 1.3 km section of Cooroy Connection Road, starting just south of Ferrells Road, including the bridge over the North Coast railway line, is set to be resurfaced.
Improvements will include new line-marking, shoulder widening, and additional guard rails to enhance safety for road users and residents. Pavement rehabilitation will also extend the road’s economic life.
Night closures will be necessary towards the end of the works on the bridge.
TMR will keep relevant stakeholders and affected residents informed as the works progress.
The Cooroy community has been advocating for improvements to the roads in this area, and we appreciate their patience while work is carried out on this critical part of the hinterland road network.

The resurfacing works are not to be confused with the Cooroy intersection improvements project, which remains at the planning stage and is currently unfunded.
Further information on the works, expected impacts and more is available at www.sandybolton.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/PC32718_Flyer_Cooroy-Connection-Road-resurfacing_2024.pdf.
Sandy will continue to advocate for TMR to reengage with the community on future upgrade options for the Myall and Elm Street as well the Elm and Diamond St intersections.
