Further to our previous update explaining the mechanism of an EUA and ongoing advocacy at https://www.sandybolton.com/environmental-upgrade-agreement-eua-update/ we have finally seen some action on this.
EUA’s are mentioned as Action #2.6 of the QLD Government’s new Energy and Job’s plan, however currently in relation to commercial buildings only, on page 19 at https://www.epw.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0029/32987/queensland-energy-and-jobs-plan.pdf
Whilst this is excellent news, there is also an incredible need to make EUA’s available for new residential housing precincts. To not consider residential properties is a lost opportunity to help QLD residents reduce the operational costs of their homes in an affordable way as well as reduce their carbon footprint, with Australian households generating at least one-fifth of Australia’s greenhouse gasses according to https://apps.epa.vic.gov.au/AGC/r_emissions.html#/!
With the legislation to enable EUAs scheduled for delivery in 2024, our advocacy will continue in efforts to see residential properties included.
