Noosa 360

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has advised that detailed design has now been completed for safety improvement works on Eumundi-Noosa Road between the Emu Mountain Road roundabout and Lenehans Lane, Doonan, with construction scheduled to commence in mid-July and expected to be completed by early 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

In response to our queries regarding traffic impacts, TMR has advised that it has taken Noosa Council’s Doonella Bridge upgrade project into account when planning these works. The majority of construction will be undertaken at night to minimise impacts on motorists and traffic flow. While some daytime works will be required, the contractor will actively manage traffic and construction activities to minimise congestion and delays across the road network.

Project Overview

Works are scheduled to commence in mid-July and are anticipated to be completed by early 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The key safety improvements include:
• installing a wide centre line treatment (WCLT) to separate traffic travelling in opposite directions
• road widening and resurfacing
• installing audio tactile linemarking
• safety improvements for bike riders, including sealed shoulders and linemarking
• installing targeted roadside safety barriers, including motorcycle protection rail.

These works will complement the WCLT works completed in mid-2025 between Lenehans Lane and the Beckmans Road roundabout, Noosaville.

What to Expect

• A combination of day and night works will be undertaken – Sunday to Friday – to minimise impacts on traffic flow.
• Traffic controllers, reduced speed limits, road signage and VMS as well as temporary traffic changes, including lane closures will be in place to ensure motorist and road worker safety.
• Emergency vehicles will have priority through the work zone.
• Nearby residents may experience potential noise, light, dust and vibration during works. Reversing beepers and flashing lights are a safety requirement and will be used during works
• Permanent access changes to the Noosa Waste Resource Recovery Centre, Cleanaway Doonan Waste Depot and Reviva Reuse Shop located at 561 Eumundi-Noosa Road, with the removal of the right-turn for traffic exiting the facilities. Vehicles will be required to turn left and turnaround at the Emu Mountain roundabout.

TMR understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during these works.

As outlined in our March 2025 update, these works are jointly funded through the Australian Government Road Safety Program, which provides funding specifically for roads with a demonstrated history of crashes resulting in fatalities or serious injuries.

Eumundi-Noosa Road met the program criteria, having recorded 22 crashes, including one fatality, over a 10-year period. While we understand and share community concerns regarding other road projects across the electorate that also require attention, this funding could only be secured for projects meeting the program’s specific road safety criteria.

Accordingly, these works should not be viewed as replacing advocacy for other transport priorities, but rather as an opportunity to improve safety outcomes through funding that was specifically available for roads such as Eumundi-Noosa Road.

We will continue to monitor construction progress, advocate for the timely delivery of these works and continue seeking funding opportunities for the many other transport and road safety priorities identified by our community.
