In response to resident queries regarding the sourcing of materials for the maintenance works along Kin Kin Rd, the Department of Main Roads & Transport (TMR) have advised the following:
TMR’s maintenance contractor Downer has been undertaking pothole and larger pavement repairs on priority sections of Kin Kin Road over recent weeks. These are asphalt repairs with materials sourced from Downer’s Bli Bli plant.
With regard to current widening works on Kin Kin Road from Turnbull Rd to just north of Williams Rd, TMR’s contractor RoadTek is primarily sourcing material from Allen’s Asphalt at Caboolture and Boral Quarries at Moy Pocket, with smaller amounts obtained from Cordwell Resources quarry at Kin Kin. The material from Cordwell Resources is non-pavement material including rock for culvert works, equating to an average of 1 truck/day.
Additionally, in relation to the upcoming Six Mile Creek Bridge replacement project, the tender for construction has not yet been awarded, as such material sources have not been determined.
As previously advised, the sourcing of construction materials is a commercial decision for construction contractors. In accordance with the QLD Procurement Policy, TMR’s procurement processes and activities must be able to demonstrate fairness and impartiality, ensuring no supplier is given an advantage of discriminated against. As such, TMR is unable to preclude suppliers if they are currently registered.
