With the recent release of the Coordinator-General’s (CG) evaluation report on the Impact Assessment Report, it is heartening to see that the CG has listened to submissions made in relation to safety concerns regarding the usage of Sivyers and Gumboil Rds. The CG has imposed a condition that prohibits large haulage vehicles from using the eastern access roads. Further to this, construction vehicle haulage hours will be controlled to avoid peak traffic periods including school pick-up and drop-off periods.
Upgrades to lane markings, improved signage, and speed zone changes are also required. SEQ Water must develop a traffic management plan in consultation with Noosa Shire Council and the plan is to be approved by Council before project activities start. The plan must detail how safety will be ensured – including management of construction vehicles to and from the site, parking, temporary road closures and traffic flow management.
The CG has also imposed a condition for a road impact assessment to be done to identify any road upgrade works required as a result of the project, for consideration and approval by Council.
