During our recent annual Noosa MP Community Survey, some residents raised the need for more aquatic facilities in Noosa, as well upgrades to the Girraween Sports Complex. We raised both issues with the Minister for Sport, who provided the following information in italics regarding:

Aquatic Facilities:

The Noosa Shire Council (NSC) have undertaken a demand and needs analysis in relation to aquatic facilities across the shire which has resulted in the Noosa Aquatic Centre Draft Upgrade Plan and the Aquatic Facilities Strategy. The Department of Sport, Raving and Olympic and Paralympic Games (DSROPG) understand NSC will be looking to secure funding for the various stages of this proposal over an approximate 20-year timeframe to ensure facilities continue to serve the needs of the community into the future. This includes expanding current arrangements for the use of school-based pools in the hinterland of your electorate.

Girraween Sports Complex:

While it is understood that the NSC have acknowledged Little Athletics Noosa’s interest in installing synthetic athletics track and field upgrades at the complex, due diligence, including feasibility for a synthetic track and an infrastructure/master plan for the site, has not yet been undertaken. The timing for a site master plan is subject to resources at NSC. Securing future funding for this project will be dependent on the planning being complete.

We will follow up with the Noosa Council regarding their plans for the Girraween Sports Complex. We would appreciate any feedback on the above information to further inform our advocacy in this space. Please email our office via noosa@parliament.qld.gov.au.
