In November 2022, following Sandy’s long advocacy, a small portion of land was revocated from Tuchekoi National Park to provide ongoing tenure for the Pomona Men’s Shed who have used this site since 2014.
A lease had previously been possible when this was forestry land, however once becoming a National Park, a lease was no longer permitted under National Park legislation. The Queensland Department of Environment provided an opportunity for Noosa Council to have trusteeship of the land which would have allowed them to provide a lease without needing revocation, however when this was not taken up, revocation to provide ongoing tenure was the only option in order to transfer the portion to the Department of Environment as free hold land.
Men’s Sheds play a vital and much-needed role in supporting men in our community, and Pomona members have shown great patience during this long and at times complex journey.
No formal decisions have yet been notified regarding the applications over the years for the use of the former Ranger’s Hut which understandably is frustrating, however we continue to seek this and will update once a determination has been made.
