During our recent Noosa MP Community Survey, some residents raised the need for parenting skills workshops at schools and/or online, and the Queensland Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services have provided the below information in italics on the current program in place.
The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety funds free access to the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) program for Queensland parents, including online programs.
The Triple P is a prevention-oriented parenting and family support system aiming to give care givers with children, aged 0-17 years a range of strategies for developing positive family relationships and managing unwanted behaviours.
Developed in Queensland and supported by more than 35 years of ongoing research, the program is available in over 30 countries to work across cultures, socio-economic groups and across different kinds of family structures.
In 2015, the Queensland Government (through the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety) commenced funding the statewide delivery of Triple P, making a variety of online and face-to-face courses available at no cost to families.
Since 2022, the Commonwealth Government has taken over responsibility for funding online Triple P programs for families with children aged 0 -11 years.
The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety now funds delivery of Teen Triple P Online which provides specific parenting information and strategies to the carers of teenage children aged between 12 and 17 years.
The Department also funds professional development in Triple P, including training, implementation support and resources. This is available at no cost for Queensland practitioners providing parenting and family support services at no cost to families. Relevant school personnel can utilise this opportunity to be trained as Triple P trainers and deliver training to care givers.
In the latest progress report provided by Triple P, of the 161 current implementation partners accessing implementation support, 94 are from schools, most commonly wellbeing staff (psychologists and social workers).
