We have been advised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) that design work has begun on the Six Mile Bridge #7 project.
Tenders for the project design contract were called in late 2020, with award in early March 2021. Design is now underway with an expected completion date by late 2021 and construction scheduled to start in the first half of 2022. The proposed design will include:
- A sturdier bridge structure capable of transporting two lanes of traffic (one lane in each direction) removing the need for motorists to stop and give way to opposing traffic on the bridge.
- Flood resilience measures.
- Additional shoulder width (of a minimum of two metres) on both sides of the bridge providing an active transport benefit for pedestrians and bike riders.
The project will replace the existing single lane bridge on Pomona Kin Kin Road, with a two-lane concrete bridge that will not only assist with improving safety, but also help ensure that the community is connected.
TMR have advised that they will be working with key stakeholders and the community through public consultation to further develop the design.
