As mentioned in our December Noosa 360 update, Sandy requested an update from Transport and Main Roads (TMR) on the progress of the Yurol Forest Drive speed review that was underway, with below in italics being provided in response:
Speed limits are set following a detailed engineering assessment that considers a range of factors including crash history, traffic volumes and prevailing speeds, road function, construction standard and abutting development.
A desktop speed limit review was undertaken on this road which recommended maintaining the speed limit at 100 km/h. However, given there is koala habitat adjacent to the road, and the reported koala strikes in 2024, TMR will undertake a further assessment of this road, giving more consideration to wildlife factors.
The initial speed review was in response to resident concerns regarding wildlife strikes on Yurol Forest Drive and our advocacy, including a wildlife strike study which our office funded. As outlined in TMR’s response, they are undertaking a further assessment, and we will continue to monitor this and update the community accordingly.
