Efforts to secure the Advanced Manufacturing Unit for Sunshine Beach State High School has continued. With a new Government now installed following the 2024 State Election, Sandy has raised the need for funding with the new Minister for Education. The following is the latest response received regarding.
Regional infrastructure teams support schools with their School Strategic Infrastructure Plan (SSIP) proposals, which are assessed through a prioritisation process to meet the highest needs across the State. This process is used to develop Department of Education short, medium and long-term investment priorities, which are subject to funding availability.
In relation to the Advanced Manufacturing Centre, I am advised that in 2022 a concept master plan proposed upgrading the Industrial Technology and Design facilities at the school. A master plan is a high-level concept document used to support future planning for schools, and while it may identify proposed future stages, the delivery of infrastructure may be adapted to suit emergent needs.
In 2024, a facilities brief for a stage of the master plan was endorsed by the Principal and the Regional Infrastructure Advisor, which proposes the future project will include two manufacturing workshops, a graphics/design workshop, amenities and other appropriate facilities. Funding for the delivery of this future project is subject to Government budget considerations and approvals, including prioritisation against other identified projects from Queensland state schools, to ensure the highest needs across the State are met.
Please be assured the Infrastructure Advisor will continue to work with the school regarding these projects and any future infrastructure needs.
On the lead up to the next State Budget, Sandy will continue her efforts for construction funding to be allocated on this project.
