Cooroy-Gympie Road (Old Bruce Highway)

TMR received several enquiries from local motorists suggesting that the 90km/h speed limit could be raised following the completion of the Bruce Highway (Cooroy to Curra) Upgrade: Section A (Cooroy southern interchange to Sankeys Road) in May 2017. This section of the Old Bruce Highway historically had a 100km/h speed limit, which was decreased in the late 2000s as a measure to reduce the crash rate between Cooroy and Gympie.

The Cooroy to Curra upgrade has resulted in a lot less traffic using this section of the Old Bruce Highway due to the upgrade supporting long distance and road freight traffic. This speed adjustment also aligns with the reinstatement of the 100km/h speed limit on the section of Cooroy-Gympie Road adjacent to Section B (Federal to Traveston) of the Cooroy to Curra Upgrade, following its completion in 2012. In response to the suggestion for the 90km/h speed limit to be raised, TMR completed a speed limit review (SLR) on this section of the Cooroy-Gympie Road late last year. The SLR recommended that a 100km/h speed limit is appropriate, given the changed traffic conditions.
