Works scheduled to commence in April have unfortunately been delayed as the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) was unable to undertake these works at that time.
The high frequency of wet weather days experienced earlier in the year impacted the works program, particularly our linemarking program. The works on Sunshine Motorway and Emu Mountain Road are now scheduled to commence during October 2018 and take approximately two months to complete, weather permitting.
As previously advised, the project involves installing wide centre line treatments and prohibiting overtaking movements on the Sunshine Motorway from the Yandina-Coolum Road roundabout to the Peregian Springs roundabout, and along the full extent of Emu Mountain Road.
These locations have been identified as requiring safety improvements to provide more distance between the high speed lanes in opposing directions. The significant crash history of 23 crashes recorded over a five year period, including 12 incidents where motorists were killed or seriously injured, highlights the requirement for improved safety.
The combined $900,000 safety projects are funded under the Queensland Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program which aims to improve road safety by implementing high-benefit, cost-effective treatments at known and potential crash locations.
